Personal Description:
Maria is an accomplished flautist, saxophonist, vocalist, and composer with a strong foundation in both jazz and classical music. A graduate of the prestigious Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London, she studied with top UK woodwing players including Gareth Lockrane, Ian Clarke, and Stan Sulzmann, as well as legendary jazz singer Tina May. She is currently pursuing her master’s degree at Berklee College of Music in Boston, studying with global jazz icons like Joe Lovano, John Patitucci, Danilo Perez, and flautist Sarpay Ozcagatay.
Maria performs internationally and has played at some of the UK's top venues including Ronnie Scott’s, Kings Place, and The Spice of Life. She held the flute chair in the National Youth Jazz Orchestra from 2018–2020 and continues to gig across the UK, Europe, and the US. In 2023, Maria released her critically acclaimed debut album TOPOĽANA, a jazz/folk fusion project inspired by her Slovak roots, which received extensive airplay on JazzFM and praise throughout Europe.
Whether you're a beginner or an advanced player, Maria brings a wealth of experience, a warm teaching style, and international perspective to every lesson.
Tutoring Experience:
I love teaching and have been doing it for the past 8 years, both as a private teacher and leading workshops/masterclasses on various topics (instrumental practise, playing in a band, composition, confidence on stage and more)!
My main goal as a teacher is for the student to enjoy music and to continue to grow through the playing of their instrument - both as a musician and as a person. Whether you want to play just for fun or you want to take it more seriously, I can adapt my approach to your needs. I can also help you prepare for a Grade Exam (if you wish to take one)!
