Victoria

I am an experienced primary school teacher who teaches Year 4 in a local, well respected, primary school. I am a mum of two, one of whom is now in secondary school and the other who just just completed his GCSEs and is about to start college. My daughter is a dancer and my son a footballer, both of which require regular "Mums Taxi" services from me and much time spent at dance festivals or wet and windy football pitches. I am a committed mum and know how important our children's happiness and well being is for parents. My husband runs his own business, which I am involved in helping him to organise, such as invoices, accounting and general day to day organisation. All of this means that I am well versed in understanding what a busy household looks and feels likes and understand the many challenges that parents and children can face, particularly when they are finding issues at school a challenge. My experiences therefore mean I am able to relate to everyday life and can easily adapt to, and understand everyone's unique positions.

Tutoring Experience

I have been teaching for 8 years now, starting in Reception/Early Years and then moving to year 4, where I am now, meaning that I am able to fully understand the progression of the learning journey in primary school and the skills needed to be ready for year 5 & 6 and secondary school. I have a very keen interest in Maths and English (and also for History - for which I am the lead at my school)
I have taught many children with SEND and am confident to use my skills and approach to adapt and scaffold tasks for individual children, taking into account their learning styles and strengths to help them move their learning forwards.

Tutoring Approach

My practice is wholly based upon positivity and praise, taking time to understand children as individuals, what their strengths are and to make them feel capable, valued, seen and heard. With a focus on mindset, when a child feels able to "give something a go" their confidence will rise. I am also very interested in metacognition - understanding how we learn, and exploring ways to help individuals unlock what works for them. The pupils in my class, and those who I have taught before will say that I am a positive, approachable, caring, understanding and encouraging teacher who makes them laugh and makes them feel good about themselves.
