I am currently Head of Geography at a well-regarded school, having previously worked at a grammar school ranked among the top 50 in the UK. I bring a wealth of experience in both geographical knowledge and skills. My strong subject knowledge is supported by a clear understanding of examination requirements, gained through my experience as a former A-level examiner and current GCSE marker. As a result, my tutees consistently achieve excellent results and meet or exceed their academic goals.
I naturally build strong, trusting, and professional relationships with both students and parents. I like to think I bring a sense of humour to my teaching and always strive to make learning engaging, relevant, and enjoyable—something that geography lends itself to particularly well.
My specific areas of interest within geography include weather and climate, glaciation (ice on the land), and urban environments. I hold a degree in Physical Geography, which provided a solid foundation for my subject expertise—further developed through teaching and independent study.
Several of my recent tutees have gone on to achieve A* grades at A-level and Grade 8 or 9 at GCSE
As of September 2025, I will have been teaching for twelve years. During this time, I have gained experience in both the state and independent sectors. I am currently Head of Geography at a good school, having previously held the same position at a top grammar school ranked within the top 50 nationally and graded as 'Outstanding'.
In addition, I have worked for the Field Studies Council (FSC), where I received specialised training in geographical skills and fieldwork—an area that features prominently in both the reformed GCSE and A-level courses (introduced from September 2016), as well as in most AS and A2 courses under the previous syllabus.
I have taught across most major exam boards; however, I primarily offer tutoring for Edexcel A-level and AQA GCSE Geography.
Alongside my teaching, I have worked as an examiner—marking A-level papers for three years and GCSE for two year. This experience has given me valuable insight into examiners' expectations and how to help students maximise their performance. I have also been a private tutor for the past ten years
I prefer to tutor at the tutees house with parents on hand if needs be. My approach is structured yet informal. For GCSE and A level students I will spend 50% of the time on subject knowledge and 50% of my time on exam skills - I follow the desire of the student in which topic area they would like to focus on therefore, I expect the student to know what they need help with.
