I am 61 years old and have experience across a broad variety of careers. I have worked internationally and have written programs for children with learning difficulties. These include lesson plans and resources which I have designed to visually describe mathematical processes.
I have taught for 40 years as a Special Education Teacher in the UK, Papua New Guinea and Australia. I have been head of department and initiated learning programs to use with parents. I have been self-employed for 15 years teaching multiple special needs, including dyslexia, dyscalculia, ASD, speech language impairment, downs syndrome, brain damaged adult and many more.
I have achieved considerable success by involving the parent and other specialists in my education program, and am flexible to work with others.
I teach using a multi-sensory approach, adjusting the program to suite each individual client. I include parents on the lesson so that they understand and can repeat activities, thus maximising the neuroplasticity of the brain. The resources that I have designed are based on years of experience with my special needs students, and are designed to be meaningful and related to daily life. I base my tutoring upon an initial assessment to ascertain any gaps, and design the subsequent program of learning. I maintain flexibility to adjust the program as and when necessary. Many of my clients have been with me throughout their school life.
