Personal Description:
Hi everyone! My name is Amrit and I am a brass teacher and musician based in Birmingham. I studied French Horn at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and gained by PGCE(i) in Instrumental Teaching in 2024. I am incredibly passionate about music education, and believe that everyone should have access to a high quality music education no matter their background. It's important to me that I create a truly inclusive environment in my teaching, and I always strive to adapt each lesson to ensure that each pupil can access the learning in a way that suits them best.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been teaching for over 5 years both in school settings and privately, and take a pupil led approach to my teaching ensuring each lesson is tailored for each individual pupil's interests and needs. I have taught whole class instrumental lessons, one to one lessons, small group lessons, and led ensembles in my education work, alongside running Motherland Music CIC where I run music workshops in a variety of settings. I have taught pupils that range from complete beginners, to grade 8 standard pupils across both ABRSM and Trinity exam boards. I work with both adult learners and children, and have my Enhanced DBS and Safeguarding Policy available on request.
Tutoring Approach:
I always offer a trial lesson to start off with, before you commit to any more lessons so you can see what my style of teaching is and if you'd like to continue. In this lesson, I will be asking what you'd like to get out of playing whether that is going for grade exams or playing for enjoyment etc. From this, if you decide to continue lessons with me, I'll create a framework for our lessons so we can achieve your goals and ensure that we're working in a way that suits you best. I believe in creating a positive, collaborative approach to learning where the student's creativity and voice is heard throughout their learning journey with me, fostering confidence within each pupil. My lessons often include a variety of activities (such as listening activities, and activities to aid rhythmic development) to ensure well rounded musicianship.
