Personal Description:
Hello, my name is Evan! I am a graduate with a strong academic background in French and Spanish. I graduated from Maynooth University (1st class honours) in French and Spanish, where I developed a deep understanding of culture, language and langauge acquisition.
Currently, I am living and working in Madrid, which allows me to stay fully immersed in the Spanish langauge, while also continuing to refine my linguistic skills on a daily basis in French (thanks to my job)! Alongside my professional experience, I will also be pursuing a Master's degree in Translation at Dublin City University, specialising in French and Spanish.
I am extremely passionate about languages and bilingualism, and I would love to help students build confidence in their language abilities and tailoring lessons to suit individual learnnig styles - whether the goal is conversational fluency, or to get that H1 in the Leaving Certificate!
Tutoring Experience:
I have valuable teaching experience both abroad and in a university setting, and would love to further develop my experience. While studying abroad in Salamanca during my undergraduate studies, I taught English to Spanish children, helping them develop their speaking, listening, and comprehension skills in an engaging environment.
Furthermore, I provided one-to-one tutoring in Maynooth University within the French and Francophone department during my final year of undergraduate studies. Here, I worked closely with second year French students to strengthen their understanding of grammar, written expression, and oral communication.
These experiences have allowed me to develop a flexible and student-focused teaching approach, adapting lessons to suit different learning styles!
Approach to Grinds:
My approach to tutoring is tailored to each individual's needs and goals. I usually begin by understanding what the students' goals are, and identify their strengths and areas for improvement.
I also strive for a relaxed and positive learning environment. I am flexible and can do lessons in person or online. I want to make the student feel comfortable making mistakes an asking questions- after all, I was in the same position when doing my Leaving Cert and in university! Lessons are structured but flexible, combining explanations with different activities to keep sessiosn engaging.
I place an emphasis on building practical communication skills while also reinforcing grammar and vocabulary and is accesible and relevant to the student. For example, I take sources such as Netflix, podcasts, and news articles from Le Monde and El País.
For exam students, I incorporate past exam papers, targeted practice, and exam techniques to help them perform to the best of their ability.
Ultimately, I want to help students struggling with languages in order for them to get the best results in their examinations, and for others to develop a genuine understanding and appreciation of languages,
